In a recent development, the Taiwanese Armed Forces have reported the approach of 27 aircraft and 9 ships belonging to the People’s Liberation Army of China (PLA) towards the island. The statement was released on the official website of the Taiwanese Ministry of National Defense.
According to the report, as of 6:00 AM on December 16, a total of 27 aircraft were detected, with ten of them crossing the “Taiwan Strait median line” and entering the island’s air defense identification zone from the north and southwest.
The defense ministry further revealed that the Chinese military is utilizing aircraft, ships, and ground-based missile systems for monitoring and response purposes.
This comes shortly after the Taiwanese Armed Forces observed 12 aircraft and seven ships from the PLA approaching the island within a day.
Earlier in December, Taiwan accused China of attempting to peacefully capture the island through intervention in presidential elections and legislative voting.
The NATO alliance has previously highlighted the potential cost of a conflict involving Taiwan.
