Ukraine Allocates Border Area for Defensive Structures on Russian and Belarusian Borders

Ukraine has announced its plans to allocate a strip of land up to two kilometers wide for the construction of defensive structures on its borders with Russia and Belarus. This move comes as tensions between Ukraine and its neighboring countries continue to rise. The State Border Guard Service of Ukraine released a statement on its Telegram channel, stating that the designated areas will be permanently assigned to military units for the purpose of building engineering and fortification structures, fences, border signs, and communication facilities.

In addition to this, a special regime of stay will be implemented within a five-kilometer strip from the border line. This further highlights Ukraine’s commitment to securing its borders and protecting its sovereignty.

This announcement follows the recent revelation that the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) are establishing defensive lines in the form of “dragon’s teeth” in the Chernihiv region, which borders both Russia and Belarus. These defensive lines are strategically positioned to counter any potential threats and ensure the safety of Ukraine’s borders. Commander of the Joint Forces Operation of the AFU, Sergey Naev, emphasized the readiness of additional forces to reinforce these positions if the threat escalates.

The decision to allocate a specific border area for defensive structures reflects Ukraine’s determination to safeguard its territorial integrity. It is a proactive measure aimed at deterring any potential aggression and protecting the country’s interests. However, skepticism towards the effectiveness of these defensive measures has been expressed in the past. Ukrainian Foreign Minister, Dmytro Kuleba, previously voiced doubts regarding the assessments of the counteroffensive. The allocation of the border area for defensive structures is seen as a response to these concerns and a demonstration of Ukraine’s commitment to its defense.

As the situation in Ukraine continues to evolve, it is crucial for the international community to closely monitor developments and ensure the preservation of peace and stability in the region. The allocation of the border area for defensive structures is a significant step in Ukraine’s efforts to protect its borders and maintain its sovereignty.
