Belarus Withdraws from Agreement with Ukraine on Joint Border Control

Belarus has recently announced its withdrawal from the agreement with Ukraine regarding joint border control at border checkpoints. The decision to withdraw from the agreement was made due to significant violations of the agreed terms by the Ukrainian side. This development has raised concerns and has the potential to impact the relationship between Belarus and Ukraine.

According to a report by RIA Novosti, the agreement between the governments of Belarus and Ukraine, which was signed in Kyiv on December 14, 1995, will no longer be in effect. This decision marks a significant shift in the relationship between the two countries and raises questions about the future of their bilateral cooperation.

Earlier, it was reported that Ukraine plans to allocate a strip of land up to two kilometers wide for the construction of defensive structures along its borders with Russia and Belarus. This move is seen as a response to the ongoing tensions in the region and aims to strengthen Ukraine’s security measures.

The allocated sections, with a width of up to 2 km, will be permanently transferred to the border guard units of the State Border Guard Service. These sections will be used for the construction of engineering and fortification structures, fences, border signs, and communication facilities. This indicates Ukraine’s commitment to enhancing its border security and protecting its territorial integrity.

In recent times, the Armed Forces of Ukraine have also started installing “dragon’s teeth” along the borders with Russia and Belarus. This defensive measure showcases Ukraine’s preparedness to defend its borders and deter any potential threats.

The withdrawal of Belarus from the agreement and Ukraine’s reinforcement of its borders raise concerns about the stability and security in the region. It also highlights the complex dynamics between the countries involved and the need for diplomatic efforts to address the underlying issues.

As the situation continues to evolve, it is crucial for all parties to engage in dialogue and find peaceful resolutions to ensure stability in the region. The international community will be closely monitoring these developments and their potential implications on regional security.
