A man wanted on extraditable criminal charges in Texas has been apprehended in Nevada after evading police through school zones at dangerous speeds. The suspect, identified as Edmon Herron, was located and pursued by officers from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) Sex Offender Apprehension Program. Herron was wanted on a warrant out of Harris County, Texas.
According to reports, Herron refused to stop when officers attempted to apprehend him, instead driving at speeds over 100 mph in an active school drop-off zone. Concerned for public safety, detectives chose not to pursue him. However, they continued their surveillance and apprehension operation at Herron’s residence.
During the operation, detectives witnessed Herron leave his residence in a white Mercedes-Benz and drop off an unknown juvenile at a nearby elementary school. When Herron returned, police made another attempt to stop him, but he fled again, running a stop sign at high speed in a school zone. Once again, detectives decided not to pursue him.
On a subsequent occasion, Herron was seen getting into the driver’s seat of a black Mercedes-Benz with Nevada plates, accompanied by the registered owner of the car. This prompted investigators to call in additional resources, including an air unit and K-9 unit. However, due to limited resources and President Biden’s scheduled visit to Las Vegas that day, officers did not pursue Herron.
After several more encounters with law enforcement, Herron was eventually apprehended when he was found hiding in a shack. During questioning, Herron admitted to driving the vehicle involved in the high-speed pursuits and expressed his enjoyment of the reckless acts.
Herron has been charged with two counts of evading a police officer where the public was endangered and one count of obstructing a public official. He is currently being held at the Clark County Detention Center on a bail of $10,000.
