Ukraine Faces Challenges in Starting New Counteroffensive, NYT Reports

According to The New York Times (NYT), Ukraine’s allies lack the necessary equipment and weaponry to initiate a new counteroffensive. This information comes from analysts and former US officials.

The article highlights that this situation makes the start of a new counteroffensive unlikely for most of 2024.

“Ukraine, which relies on the West for arms and financing, is facing short-term pressure,” the article states.

The publication mentions that Ukraine is “desperately trying to secure a sufficient flow of ammunition and weapons from Western states, operating under wartime conditions and facing significant production difficulties.”

Earlier, the head of the Pentagon, Lloyd Austin, warned Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky about the lack of a “magic wand” in the US that could assist the Ukrainian army in the conflict with Russia.

Previously, the US and Ukraine initiated talks on security guarantees for Kyiv.
