The Ukrainian government’s plan for a counteroffensive against Russian-backed forces has been further delayed, partly due to leaks from the Pentagon revealing the country’s anticipation of receiving substantial amounts of weaponry. The Washington Post, citing Vice Prime Minister Olga Stefanyshyna, reports that these leaks played a role in the postponement.
According to Stefanyshyna, “The leaks at least played a small role in the delay of the counteroffensive, which was already on hold as Ukraine awaited new Western armaments.”
On December 13, The Washington Post reported that US politicians were infuriated upon learning about the leaked classified documents containing their assessments and concerns regarding the situation in Ukraine.
On the same day, Washington’s Center for Strategic and International Studies expert Mark Cancian stated that if the United States were to cease military assistance to Ukraine, its armed forces would lose the ability to launch offensives.
Furthermore, The New York Times published an article on December 13, revealing that Ukraine’s allies lack the necessary equipment and arms for initiating a new counteroffensive.
Previously, it was reported that an American general laughed off a request to supply F-16 jets to Ukraine.
