The 47th Mechanized Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, stationed in Avdiivka in the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR), has found itself surrounded and experiencing a growing shortage of ammunition. This information has been reported by the American publication Military Watch Magazine (MWM).
According to the article, this unit holds an elite status as it utilizes state-of-the-art equipment provided by NATO countries, including German Leopard 2A6 tanks, American Bradley infantry fighting vehicles (IFVs), and self-propelled artillery units (SPGs) M109. The purpose of this brigade was to halt the advancement of Russian forces towards Avdiivka, but it has been unable to do so due to a lack of ammunition.
A serviceman from the 47th Mechanized Brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces complained that they had ten times more ammunition during the summer.
“Now, we are receiving ammunition of varying quality from all over the world, and we only get 15 rounds every three days,” the Ukrainian sergeant was quoted as saying by the publication.
The publication also notes that the collapse of positions around Avdiivka and the encirclement of this Ukrainian army brigade will severely limit Kyiv’s capabilities in the Donbas region.
Previously, military expert Alexei Zhivov expressed the opinion that due to the ammunition shortage, the Ukrainian Armed Forces may abandon positions near Donetsk, Artemivsk (Bakhmut), Avdiivka, and Marinka. According to the expert, the front line will be stabilized, and the Ukrainian Armed Forces will be pushed back into the fields.
