The director of Omsk School No. 87 has been accused of preventing the installation of a memorial plaque honoring veteran Alexey Yamshchikov. In a video addressed to the city’s mayor, Sergey Shelest, fellow servicemen of the fallen soldier recorded their grievances, as reported by “NGS55” portal.
“We proposed to commemorate the memory of the fallen soldier by installing a memorial plaque on the wall of his alma mater, School No. 87, after obtaining all necessary approvals from the Lenin district administration, the Department of Property Relations, and the military commissariat. Armed with these documents, we met with the school director. To our astonishment, we heard these words: ‘If we start hanging plaques for everyone, we’ll run out of wall space; this is not a cemetery’,” the fighters stated in their appeal.
The city hall responded to the appeal, stating that there was a misunderstanding. The director informed the soldiers that the proper documentation must be collected and submitted to the Omsk City Council, where decisions regarding memorial plaques are made.
Prior to this incident, the mayor of Penza, Basenko, called for the postponement of installing memorials for SVR participants in schools.
Earlier, in Yamal, a new support measure was introduced for SVR participants.
