Dublin stabbing suspect to be arrested within days after waking from coma

The suspect in the Dublin stabbing incident, which left a five-year-old girl and three other children injured, is expected to be arrested “within days” after waking from a coma, according to reports. The attack, which took place outside Gaelscoil Cholaiste Mhuire, an all-Irish primary school in Dublin’s city center, prompted a night of rioting and has left the young girl in critical condition at Temple Street Children’s Hospital.

The assailant, an Algerian immigrant in his 50s who has lived in Ireland for 20 years and became a naturalized Irish citizen, allegedly plunged a knife into the chest of the five-year-old girl before turning his knife on a school caretaker who intervened. The caretaker, Leanne Flynn Keogh, remained in critical condition for over a week but has since been moved out of intensive care and is currently recovering. Two other children injured in the incident have been released from the hospital.

The suspect, who was beaten by passersby and subsequently put into a coma, is now awake and will be questioned by Irish police once deemed fit by medical professionals. The police are expected to push for an attempted murder charge, which carries a penalty of up to life in prison. The suspect has previously appeared in court on charges of possessing a knife and criminal damage to a car.

The motive for the attack is still under investigation, and authorities have found no evidence to suggest a terrorism link after searching the suspect’s laptop. The incident sparked outrage, with hundreds of people taking to the streets in protest of mass migration into Ireland. The riots resulted in clashes with the police and the destruction of property. In response, Ireland’s prime minister has called for an anti-hate law, drawing criticism for its potential impact on free speech.

The injured girl’s family has expressed gratitude for the support they have received and described their daughter as a “warrior” who continues to fight for her recovery. The community has come together to show their love and prayers for the young girl.

As the investigation continues, Irish authorities will present their evidence to the Director of Public Prosecutions for further action. The incident has highlighted concerns surrounding immigration and the potential consequences of such acts of violence.
