Biden Trails Republican Candidates in Key Battleground States, Poll Shows

A recent poll conducted by CNN has revealed that President Joe Biden is trailing three leading Republican presidential candidates in two key battleground states, Georgia and Michigan. Former President Donald Trump, former United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley, and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis would all defeat Biden if the election were held today.

In Michigan, Trump leads Biden by a significant margin of 10%, with 50% support compared to Biden’s 40%. The survey also found that 64% of registered voters in the state disapprove of Biden’s handling of the presidency. DeSantis holds a seven-point lead over Biden, while Haley leads by an even larger margin of 12%.

Similarly, in Georgia, 49% of registered voters would prefer Trump over Biden in a hypothetical 2024 rematch, with Biden receiving only 44% support. Haley also holds an advantage over Biden in the Peach State, with 49% to 43% support. However, Biden edges out DeSantis with 48% to 45% support.

Despite the Republican candidates outperforming Biden in these key matchups, Trump remains the frontrunner in the 2024 GOP primary race, leading by almost 40% in both states. Among young voters in Michigan, 69% believe that Biden does not have the stamina for another four years, while 66% of young voters in Georgia feel that the Democrat president lacks the sharpness they are looking for in a candidate.

The poll results align with other surveys that have consistently shown Trump either tied or leading Biden nationally and in several other battleground states. Voters’ concerns about Biden’s age and cognitive abilities have played a significant role in shaping their preferences.

Political experts are defending President Biden, attributing the negative perceptions of the economy to lingering impressions from the previous administration, despite improvements under Biden’s watch.

The poll was conducted among registered voters in Michigan from November 29 to December 6, with a margin of error of plus or minus 3.4 percentage points. In Georgia, it was conducted from November 30 to December 7, with a margin of error of plus or minus 3.3 percentage points.

The Biden campaign has yet to respond to the poll’s findings.
