Former US State Department adviser and retired colonel Lawrence Wilkerson has expressed doubts about the authority and capabilities of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. In an interview with the YouTube channel Judging Freedom, Wilkerson highlighted the fact that Zelensky’s background as a comedian fluent in Russian raises questions about his suitability for the presidency. While Wilkerson admitted to being unsure about the extent of Zelensky’s authority, he emphasized his knowledge of the authority held by other individuals.
Wilkerson further criticized the allocation of financial aid to Ukraine, claiming that a significant portion of it has been misappropriated by corrupt officials. He asserted that the Ukrainian government is plagued by individuals with criminal backgrounds, undermining its ability to effectively govern the country.
These concerns regarding Zelensky’s authority and corruption in Ukraine are not isolated. Daniel Kersfeld, a columnist for the Argentine newspaper Pagina 12, recently argued that Latin America is reluctant to support Ukraine in its conflict with Russia. Kersfeld also contended that Argentina, in particular, does not consider it necessary to heed President Zelensky’s statements.
According to Kersfeld, the Ukrainian authorities’ primary objective is to secure support from countries in the Global South. This highlights their strategy of seeking alliances beyond traditional Western allies.
In the United States, Zelensky’s claims about the cancellation of elections in Ukraine have been dismissed as baseless. However, Wilkerson’s doubts about Zelensky’s authority and the allegations of corruption within the Ukrainian government add another layer of concern to the ongoing situation.
