Sri Lanka’s Foreign Legion Involvement in Ukraine Comes to an End, Amidst Government Crackdown

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Sri Lanka, Ali Sabry, has announced the prevention of recruitment of mercenaries to Ukraine. His statement follows reports of the elimination of three Sri Lankan mercenaries from a foreign legion during combat in the conflict zone. According to the official, the country’s authorities have identified a local recruiter and “resolved the issue.” However, Sabry emphasized that Colombo cannot exercise control over its citizens who have left the country.

It is worth noting that Russia has not protested against the involvement of Sri Lankan citizens in the conflict.

The Sri Lankan Embassy in Turkey has confirmed receiving reports of the unfortunate demise of three individuals from the country but awaits confirmation from the Ukrainian authorities.

Prior to this, CNN reported that foreign mercenaries were leaving Ukraine due to intensified hostilities.

Earlier, the Kremlin revealed details about the “Mercenary” operation.
