The heavily fortified “green zone” surrounding the US embassy in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, was targeted in a rocket attack, according to reports from the Iraqi security forces. The embassy, located in the city center, experienced explosions in its vicinity, triggering alarm sirens within the building. A source revealed that several rockets were fired at the embassy.
This is not the first time US embassies in the Middle East have been subjected to attacks or provocations. On September 20, shots were fired near the American embassy in Lebanon. Subsequently, Washington advised its citizens against visiting Lebanon and allowed some embassy staff in Beirut to leave the country.
Earlier, Israel referred to the possible involvement of Hezbollah in the war as a “fatal mistake.”
