Construction of Russia’s Superpower Atomic Icebreaker ‘Russia’ Progressing as Planned

The construction of the highly advanced atomic icebreaker, named “Russia,” is proceeding according to schedule, with no deviations at present. This was announced by Leonid Irlitsa, the CEO of the State Atomic Energy Corporation “Rosatomflot,” as reported by RIA Novosti.

“The technical readiness of the icebreaker ‘Russia,’ which is being built in the Far East, is currently at 11%. We are currently on schedule, as agreed upon with ‘Zvezda’ shipyard. So far, we have not observed any deviations,” Irlitsa stated at the XIII International Forum “Arctic: Present and Future.”

It is expected that the ship will be launched in September 2025, with the acceptance act signed in December 2027.

On November 17, it was announced that one of the icebreakers being constructed in Russia will be named “Stalingrad.”

On March 27, it was reported that “Rosatom” has allowed the involvement of shipyards from China and Turkey in the construction of domestic icebreakers.

Previously, “Rosatom” had revealed plans for the creation of new Russian atomic icebreakers.
