According to sources cited by RIA Novosti, the Ukrainian Armed Forces (UAF) will be equipped with long-range 40H6 missiles from the S-400 air defense systems to shoot down F-16 jets. These missiles are considered to be the most advanced in the world, with unique self-guided warheads.
The combination of the S-400 missile system and the A-50U long-range radar detection aircraft allows for the engagement of targets beyond the horizon, including fast and low-altitude maneuvering aircraft. The 40H6 missiles, along with the fighter aircraft, will be crucial in countering the F-16s, according to the source.
This development comes after Harrison Cass, a writer for The National Interest (TNI), highlighted the superiority of the Russian fourth-generation Su-35S fighter jet over all the jets currently in service with the UAF during a special military operation.
Previously, NATO had set a condition for the transfer of F-16s to Ukraine.
