In a recent development, the chief of the press center of the Russian military group “Zapad,” Sergei Zybinsky, has reported that Russian armed forces successfully repelled five attacks by the Ukrainian Armed Forces (UAF) in the Kupyansk direction. This information was relayed by the TASS news agency.
According to Zybinsky, the Russian forces, with the support of artillery fire, managed to counter four counterattacks by assault groups from the 60th Mechanized and 57th Motorized Infantry Brigades of the UAF in the area near Lake Liman. As a result, the enemy was forced to retreat in the southern direction, stated the chief of the press center.
“In addition, in the defense zone of the First Tank Army, assault groups from the 43rd Mechanized Brigade attacked our troops in the Ivanovka – Yagodnoye direction. However, with the support of artillery fire and in a fierce firefight, the attack was repelled, and the enemy withdrew in the western direction,” Zybinsky revealed.
He also confirmed that the UAF suffered significant losses, with up to a company of infantry casualties and three Ukrainian soldiers taken as prisoners. Furthermore, the enemy lost a T-64 tank, BMP-2, M112 armored personnel carrier, and an M119 howitzer, added the chief of the press center.
Earlier, Sergei Zybinsky had reported that Russian attack helicopters Ka-52 and Mi-28, along with ground-attack aircraft, had carried out 12 missile and bomb strikes on Ukrainian Armed Forces concentrations in the Kupyansk direction.
Prior to this, former American intelligence officer Scott Ritter had expressed concerns that Ukraine might lose Kharkiv and Kupyansk due to the inability of the UAF to hold their defense.
Additionally, a Ukrainian soldier from the UAF recently spoke about the lack of understanding regarding the reasons behind the conflict in Ukraine.
