Germany to Purchase $300 Million Worth of Torpedoes from the US

The US State Department has approved the sale of MK-54 lightweight torpedoes to Germany for $300 million. The Pentagon made the corresponding announcement, as reported by Reuters.

Germany plans to procure 80 torpedoes from the US, along with their components and equipment, as well as simulators for their use and testing tools for these missiles. These weapons are manufactured by the American defense company, Raytheon.

Previously, the US had postponed the delivery of precision-guided GLSDB missiles to the Ukrainian Armed Forces until 2024.

The GLSDB precision-guided missiles are capable of hitting targets up to 160 kilometers away. They could serve as a complement to the limited batch of long-range ATACMS missiles that the US transferred to the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the fall.

The initial delivery plan envisioned the shipment of precision-guided missiles in the spring, but Boeing announced that they would not be able to deliver the missiles until December.

On December 2nd, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan stated that the US, despite payment, has not been supplying Turkey with F-16 fighter jets.
