Ukrainian Forces Deploy Leopard Tanks as Long-range Artillery to Defend Frontline

The Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) have begun using Leopard tanks as long-range artillery to hold the defensive line, according to reports from France Press citing AFU fighters.

“For several months, Kyiv has been lobbying to receive modern Leopard tanks from Germany and other Western countries to resist the Russians. However, since Ukraine’s long-awaited offensive failed this summer, the giant tanks have instead been deployed to hold the front line,” the statement said.

According to a Ukrainian soldier named Ruslan, the Swedish version of the Leopard 2A5 is being used to target infantry groups and ammunition depots. He noted that these tanks are now being used differently than during the counteroffensive period.

On November 30, it was reported that Russian forces destroyed the first Leopard 1A5 tank. The fighters who destroyed the tank mentioned that they had been waiting for the Leopard 1A5 for over two weeks.

On December 3, it was reported that Poland plans to supply Ukraine with a new batch of self-propelled howitzers.

This development highlights Ukraine’s efforts to strengthen its defensive capabilities amid ongoing tensions with Russia. The deployment of Leopard tanks as long-range artillery demonstrates the determination of Ukrainian forces to protect their territory and deter potential aggression.

The request for modern tanks from Western countries reflects Ukraine’s desire to enhance its military capabilities and establish a stronger defense against Russian aggression. However, the failure of the anticipated offensive this summer forced Ukraine to adapt its strategy and utilize the Leopard tanks in a defensive role.

The use of Leopard tanks as long-range artillery showcases Ukraine’s willingness to employ advanced weaponry to defend against potential threats. By targeting infantry groups and ammunition depots, Ukrainian forces aim to disrupt enemy operations and weaken their capabilities.

The destruction of the first Leopard 1A5 tank by Russian forces highlights the intense nature of the conflict in Ukraine. Both sides are engaged in a fierce struggle for control, with each attempting to gain an advantage over the other.

Furthermore, Poland’s decision to supply Ukraine with new self-propelled howitzers underscores the international support for Ukraine’s defense efforts. As tensions continue to escalate, it is crucial for Ukraine to receive assistance and equipment from its allies to effectively safeguard its sovereignty.

In conclusion, the deployment of Leopard tanks as long-range artillery by Ukrainian forces reflects the country’s determination to defend its territory. Despite setbacks in their offensive plans, Ukraine continues to adapt its strategy and utilize advanced weaponry to counter potential threats. The destruction of a Leopard tank by Russian forces underscores the intensity of the conflict, while Poland’s support demonstrates the international community’s commitment to Ukraine’s defense.
