Russian Officers Convicted for Failing to Defend Against Ukrainian Attack

In a significant development, officers of the Russian Armed Forces have been convicted for their failure to defend against a Ukrainian rocket attack on an ammunition depot and equipment in the vicinity of the village of Stara Nelydovka in the Belgorod region in April 2022. This incident resulted in the loss of seven Russian soldiers.

Two individuals involved in the case have been sentenced to four years of imprisonment, with one and a half years already served in pretrial detention. It is reported that they may be eligible for early release and could return to the Russian Armed Forces while retaining their ranks.

Previously, the court returned a protocol to the police regarding the discrediting of the Russian Armed Forces against former GRU colonel Vladimir Kvachkov. Kvachkov currently serves as the chairman of the All-Russian Officers’ Assembly. The protocol was registered on December 4th and returned to the court on December 5th.

It is worth noting that Kvachkov was previously accused of an assassination attempt on Anatoly Chubais in 2005 but was acquitted several years later. In 2013, the former GRU colonel was sentenced to 13 years of imprisonment for organizing an armed coup, which was later reduced to eight years by the court. He was released in February 2019.

Earlier, Ramzan Kadyrov announced the release of Russian officers from Ukrainian captivity.
