Russian military forces, in collaboration with the Russian National Guard, have successfully ensured the safe rotation of international observers from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) at the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant. This development comes amidst ongoing concerns about the security and stability of the region.
The observers were able to travel along a route that had a ceasefire regime in place from 6:00 to 18:00 Moscow time. Prior to their movement, Russian sappers meticulously inspected the area for any unexploded foreign and Ukrainian ammunition, remnants of previous shelling by Ukrainian forces in the Zaporizhia region.
The Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant faced a power outage from an external transmission line during the night of December 2. The station relied on diesel generators for nearly five hours until the 750 kV “Dniprovska” line was reactivated at 8:07. Fortunately, the station’s own needs were met by the diesel generators.
The IAEA had earlier reported the complete disconnection of the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant from its external power source on December 2. However, the reconnection has since been successfully restored, ensuring the continued operation of the plant.
It is worth noting that the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has attributed the Ukrainian attacks on the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant to the support provided by Western countries. This raises questions about the role and responsibility of international actors in the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
