Man Suspected of Killing Four People Commits Suicide After Police Chase

A tragic incident unfolded in Dallas as a man suspected of killing four people, including a 1-year-old boy, and injuring a 15-year-old girl, took his own life during a chase with law enforcement. The suspect, identified as 21-year-old Byron Carillo, fled the scene of the shooting on Sunday afternoon and managed to steal a vehicle before being pursued by authorities. The chase led to a crash in the Austin area, approximately 195 miles south of Dallas, where Carillo ultimately shot himself in the head.

Upon arrival at the initial crime scene, officers discovered that five individuals had been shot. Three adults were pronounced dead on-site, while the 1-year-old boy and the 15-year-old girl were rushed to a hospital. Tragically, the 1-year-old succumbed to their injuries, while the teenager received medical treatment and was subsequently released. Fortunately, a 13-year-old girl who was also present during the shooting remained unharmed.

The victims have since been identified as Logan De La Cruz (1 year old), Vanessa De La Cruz (20 years old), Karina Lopez (33 years old), and Jose Lopez (50 years old). Carillo, who was wearing an ankle monitor due to a previous aggravated assault charge in 2021, had removed it prior to or immediately after the shooting.

The Texas Rangers will be conducting an investigation into Carillo’s death. This heartbreaking incident highlights the need for continued efforts to address and prevent such acts of violence within our communities.
