Israel’s AI-Assisted Genocide in Gaza: Unveiling the Propaganda Ploy

Israel’s narrative of ‘evacuation warnings’ and ‘precision strikes’ in Gaza has come under scrutiny, as evidence suggests that it is using artificial intelligence (AI) to carry out a genocide in the region. Recent developments in the conflict have revealed how Israel’s claims of protecting civilians are nothing more than a propaganda ploy to cover up the atrocities being committed on the ground.

On December 2, the Israeli army’s spokesperson, Avichay Adraee, posted a map of Gaza divided into numbered blocks, instructing Palestinians to evacuate certain areas. The map was also distributed through QR code-linked leaflets dropped over Gaza. While Israel portrayed these actions as precautionary measures, it simultaneously intensified air strikes, killing hundreds of Palestinians in what was previously designated as a “safe zone.” The Israeli army boasted about hitting “400 targets,” fueling the narrative of precision military operations.

However, reports have surfaced indicating that Israel’s ability to carry out these “precision” strikes is aided by an AI tool that generates targets. The use of evacuation maps and warnings on social media seems more directed at Western audiences, aiming to alleviate concerns about civilian casualties, rather than genuinely ensuring the safety of Palestinians in Gaza.

The discrepancy between the proclaimed concern for civilians and the mounting death toll, with nearly 16,000 people dead and thousands missing, raises questions about Israel’s true intentions. Legal experts have labeled Israel’s actions as genocide, and the United States has warned Israel to conclude its campaign in Gaza promptly. President Joe Biden is facing domestic discontent over his handling of the war, which could impact his chances in next year’s presidential election.

Israel’s tactics of using digital maps, QR codes, and boasting about its “precision” military technologies, including an AI weapons system called “Habsora,” have raised alarm. This AI system allegedly allows Israel to identify targets quickly and automatically, resulting in a higher number of targets selected for bombing. The system even displays the estimated civilian casualties in the target file, categorizing thresholds of acceptable collateral damage.

The use of AI in this conflict raises concerns about the reproduction of biases learned from past Israeli army behavior. If the AI has associated Palestinians with “Hamas terrorists,” it could explain the high number of new targets generated for bombing. Israel’s claims of technological superiority are paradoxical, as they are used to defend against accusations of indiscriminate attacks on civilians and war crimes.

The more Israel and the US boast about Israel’s technical prowess, the more questions arise regarding the large number of civilian casualties. This situation puts Israel at risk legally, as the greater the precision capabilities of an attacker, the more they are expected to prove that they are not being reckless.

Ultimately, the sophisticated technology being employed in Gaza is being weaponized as a tool of mass killing and destruction, contradicting its supposed purpose of precision and precaution. The ongoing conflict in Gaza reveals the dark reality of an AI-assisted genocide taking place under the guise of protecting civilians.
