Hezbollah Resumes Attacks on Israel, Escalating Tensions in the Middle East

Hezbollah fighters from the armed wing of the party have resumed active shelling of Israeli territory from the south of Lebanon. This was announced in a statement published on the military information service “Hezbollah” Telegram channel.

According to the statement, Shiite formations attacked 12 military positions of the enemy in the past 24 hours, using guided missiles and mortar shells. The Jewish settlements of Biranit, Birket-Risha, Misgav-Am, and Shetula came under fire.

“The fighters of the Islamic resistance carried out these operations in response to the aggression of the Zionist regime against the Palestinian population in the Gaza Strip,” the statement said. Hezbollah added that all enemy targets were successfully hit.

The Israeli army, in turn, reported that the air force struck one of Hezbollah’s weapon depots on Lebanese territory in response to mortar shelling. Artillery fire was also opened on the populated areas of Ait al-Shaab, Deir Mimas, Kafr Kila, Tellet Hamamis, El Hiam, and El Edeisa. Detailed information on the consequences of these strikes is not yet available.

The situation in the Middle East has escalated after thousands of Hamas militants infiltrated Israeli territory from the Gaza Strip on October 7. Over two hundred hostages were taken.

On that day, Hamas launched thousands of rockets at Israeli territory and announced the start of the “Flood of Al-Aqsa” operation. In response, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared that the country is in a state of war.

The Lebanese Shiite organization Hezbollah expressed support for Hamas. Rocket attacks on Israel and Lebanon have begun from both sides. On the day of October 19, the Israeli army announced that the country’s border areas were shelled from Lebanese territory. According to the IDF, several anti-tank missiles were fired towards the kibbutz of Manara.

The Lebanese Shiite organization Hezbollah is reportedly capable of neutralizing Israel’s Iron Dome missile defense system in the event of a conflict in the Middle East, according to experts cited by Bloomberg.

Earlier, American political scientist Mearsheimer stated that Biden is afraid to cross the Israeli lobby.
