A heart-stopping video has emerged showing the heroic actions of Connecticut Police Officers as they saved a woman from potentially serious harm on a bridge. The incident took place on Monday, November 27, when several 911 calls reported a distressed woman on the side of Baldwin Bridge, which stands 100 feet above the Connecticut River.
Upon arriving at the scene, troopers located a female who had climbed over the metal safety fencing and was sitting precariously on a five-inch ledge. In the video, Sgt. Matthew Belz can be seen calmly engaging with the woman, while Sgt. Ashley Harkins fearlessly climbed over the safety fence, risking her own life on the narrow ledge above the flowing river to assist in the rescue.
The two sergeants were able to communicate with the woman, persuading her to move her hands to the fencing and then climb onto Sgt. Harkins’ legs. Responding troopers then pulled the woman to safety, over the fence, and immediately transferred her into an awaiting ambulance for necessary medical treatment.
The Connecticut Police Department commended the swift and decisive actions of Sgt. Harkins and Sgt. Belz, acknowledging their role in saving the woman’s life. The department also expressed gratitude to DEEP Colonel Chris Lewis and State Troopers from Troop F who provided additional assistance at the scene.
