Hamas’ Use of Social Media to Spread Antisemitism and the Silence of Women’s Groups

An alarming increase in antisemitic content on social media has been observed following Hamas’ massacre of Jews in Israel on October 7. According to CyberWell co-founder Tal-Or Cohen Montemayor, antisemitic posts on platforms like TikTok surged by 86% immediately after the attack. These posts included livestreams of Hamas terrorists executing families, videos of women being violently raped and paraded in the streets of Gaza, and even lynchings of Israeli soldiers. The lack of preparedness by social media companies in dealing with such hateful content has contributed to the rise in antisemitism and hate crimes against Jews, not only in the US but also worldwide.

Surprisingly, prominent women’s groups have remained silent on the issue of Hamas’ brutal sexual violence. During a discussion on “The View,” co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin expressed her disappointment in the lack of condemnation from women’s groups regarding the use of rape as an act of war by Hamas. Whoopi Goldberg, another co-host, suggested that their silence may be attributed to their reluctance to exacerbate the problem. This silence from women’s groups has drawn criticism from actress and “Jeopardy!” host Mayim Bialik, who highlighted the absence of support from progressive feminists and called for their attention to the issue.

In response to alleged harassment of students based on their national origin during the Israel-Hamas war, the U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights (OCR) has initiated an investigation into Harvard University. The investigation aims to determine whether Harvard failed to adequately address instances of alleged antisemitism on campus. The complaint was filed in relation to an incident where a first-year Israeli student at Harvard Business School was reportedly shoved and accosted by pro-Palestinian protesters during a demonstration.

In a positive development, a Jewish-owned ice cream shop in San Francisco, which had been temporarily closed after being vandalized with pro-Palestinian graffiti, recently reopened. The shop’s owner expressed gratitude for the support received from the community and emphasized their commitment to spreading joy and love through their business.

Elon Musk, CEO of SpaceX, also voiced concerns about social media platforms like TikTok, stating that he stopped using the app due to discomfort caused by the AI’s probing of his mind. Musk further noted that TikTok has a significant amount of viral antisemitic content.

The rise in antisemitic content on social media, the silence of women’s groups regarding Hamas’ sexual violence, the investigation into Harvard University, and the reopening of the vandalized ice cream shop highlight the urgent need to address and combat antisemitism in society.
