FBI Seeks Suspects in Carjacking of Agent in Washington, D.C.

The FBI has released photos of two suspects wanted in connection with the carjacking of an agent in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday. The incident occurred on November 26 in midtown Manhattan, when an alleged car thief attempted to flee after crashing the stolen vehicle into a taxi and a parked car. The FBI’s Washington Field Office and the D.C. Metropolitan Police Carjacking Task Force are now seeking information about the carjacking that took place around 3:45 p.m. in the 100 block of 12th St. NE.

According to law enforcement, two unknown suspects carjacked an FBI agent at gunpoint while the agent was exiting an FBI vehicle. The suspects later fled the scene, and the stolen vehicle was recovered approximately 20 minutes later. Fortunately, the agent was not injured during the carjacking, though it remains unclear if anything was stolen.

In an effort to apprehend the suspects, the FBI is offering a $10,000 reward for any information that leads to their arrest. Carjackings have been on the rise in D.C., with statistics from the Metropolitan Police Department showing 911 carjackings this year alone. Alarmingly, 77% of these carjackings involved firearms. In comparison, there were 429 carjackings reported over the same period in 2022.

Furthermore, it is worth noting that the majority of carjacking arrests involve juveniles, with the most common age of offenders being 15. This trend raises concerns about the involvement of young individuals in such crimes.

The FBI and local law enforcement agencies are working diligently to address this concerning issue and ensure the safety of the community. The release of the suspects’ photos is a significant step towards identifying and apprehending those responsible for the carjacking of an FBI agent.
