Russian Military Expert Discusses the Potential Impact of Maritime Drones on Naval Operations

Russian military expert, retired Colonel Anatoly Matviychuk, has revealed that maritime drones, which may be deployed in the Russian armed forces by the end of this year, will serve specific purposes and contribute to the efficiency of the fleet. Matviychuk shared his insights in an interview with the publication “Lenta.ru”.

According to Matviychuk, the Russian Armed Forces already possess maritime drones that have been utilized for search and reconnaissance missions, although not extensively.

He believes that the number of maritime drones will increase in the future, and they will be used for special operations.

“I believe they will have a significant impact on the corridor being developed in parallel with Ukraine, referring to the grain corridor… We will not need to send heavy ships; instead, lightweight unmanned drones will be deployed. However, if necessary, they will demonstrate force through simulated explosions, and targeted explosions may also occur,” explained the retired colonel.

Matviychuk emphasized that maritime drones will not be able to alter the situation at the contact line.

Previously, it was reported that the Russian Ministry of Defense is set to receive its first Russian maritime drones by the end of 2023, which will undergo testing in a military operation zone.

Earlier, Ukraine announced the development of its own fleet of maritime drones.
