Storm Leaves Almost 500,000 Residents in Crimea Without Power

Simferopol, November 27 – A severe storm has left nearly 500,000 residents in Crimea without electricity, according to Oleg Kryuchkov, an advisor to the head of the republic. Kryuchkov, citing operational data from the Crimean Energy Company, stated, “There are 166 transmission lines, 1185 transformer stations, 365 households, and a total of 498,000 people affected by the power outage.”

The most affected areas on the peninsula include Chernomorsky, Saki, Belogorsky, Simferopolsky, Oktyabrsky, Bakhchisaray, and Leninsky, Kryuchkov clarified. In the Chernomorsky district, the water supply has been disrupted due to the power outage, and sewage and centralized heating have been halted, announced Natalya Pisareva, the district’s head, in her Telegram channel.

According to Kryuchkov, 38 teams are currently working to restore the power supply. A storm warning was issued for Crimea on Thursday for the upcoming weekend and Monday due to the approach of a Mediterranean cyclone. It was noted that the peninsula would experience heavy rain and hurricane-force winds.

As a result of the storm’s havoc, many settlements on the peninsula are now without electricity, trees have been toppled, and gas pipelines have been damaged. A strong storm is raging at sea, causing coastal areas of Yevpatoriya to be flooded by waves. Additionally, due to flooding, the Saki-Evpatoriya highway has been closed, with a detour organized. Trolleybus services have also been suspended on the intercity mountain road from Simferopol to Yalta. Buses are being used to evacuate people from the affected area.

Monday, November 27, has been declared a day off in Crimea and Sevastopol due to the situation.
