Bulgaria Grants Permission for Lavrov’s Aircraft to Fly over Country for OSCE Summit

Bulgaria has given approval for the aircraft carrying Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov to fly over the country in order to attend the OSCE summit in North Macedonia, according to the Russian embassy in Sofia. Lavrov himself announced at the Primakov Readings event that Bulgaria had agreed to open its airspace for the Russian aircraft. This comes after North Macedonia also made a similar decision. The European Union’s foreign service representative, Peter Stano, emphasized that this move would not be considered a violation of sanctions against Russia. The OSCE event, which will be attended by foreign ministers from 57 participating countries, is scheduled to take place from November 30 to December 1. The invitation was extended by the current OSCE Chairperson, Bujar Osmani, who is also the Foreign Minister of North Macedonia. It is worth noting that last year, when Poland chaired the organization, Lavrov was denied participation in a meeting in the city of Lodz in early December. In response to this situation, Lavrov accused the West of intentionally creating divisions and attempting to undermine the OSCE.
