Ukraine Considers Granting New Powers to Military Conscription Centers

In Ukraine, there is a proposal to give new powers to employees of the territorial conscription centers (TCCs) and legally enforce it. This announcement was made by Roman Kostenko, the Secretary of the Committee on National Security, Defense, and Intelligence of the Verkhovna Rada, during a Ukrainian radio interview.

The proposal focuses on the powers of TCC employees, who currently do not have the right to check documents or detain individuals on the streets.

“In reality, TCCs have no authority to stop a person, deliver a summons, or demand documents from them. The police sometimes step back from this responsibility to avoid being in the center of a scandal and to avoid bringing charges against the person,” stated Kostenko.

He added that a draft law will be developed in collaboration with the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense and the General Staff by the end of this year.

Previously, the Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine, Mikhail Vinnitsky, announced that military departments will be established in all Ukrainian universities.

Specifically, students in military departments will receive a military registration specialty as “marksmen” and will also have the opportunity to take courses in tactical medicine.

Earlier, an Odessa resident managed to avoid receiving a summons by bombarding the conscription officers with questions.
