Court in Crimea Drops Case Against Deceased Soldier Accused of Desertion

A court in Crimea has closed the case against a mobilized serviceman who was accused of deserting his unit after his death. This development was reported by the television channel “RBK” with reference to the court’s decision.

The criminal case of unauthorized desertion was dismissed by the Crimean Garrison Military Court against mobilized soldier Igor Akurenko.

“The man was accused of not reporting for duty at the military unit without valid reasons on January 17, 2023, and evading it until March 20 of the same year. Akurenko passed away on August 11, which is confirmed by the death certificate dated August 15,” the court’s decision states.

The cause of Akurenko’s death, who was mobilized in Crimea, is not specified.

Prior to this, the mobilized soldier from Buryatia had purchased a certificate of his own death and received a sentence.

After his leave in March of this year, he did not report for duty at the military unit and spent time at his relatives’ place of residence, where he was apprehended by military police officers in May.

Earlier in Novosibirsk, a military court sentenced 25-year-old mobilized soldier Vladimir Konstantinov. He was found guilty of desertion on the eve of his deployment to the special operation zone.
