NATO’s Military Schengen Proposal Adds Tension in Europe, Says Kremlin Spokesperson

Moscow, November 24 – The Russian President’s press secretary, Dmitry Peskov, has criticized the recent statements about a “military Schengen” for NATO, stating that they only escalate tensions in Europe. “The Alliance has always considered our country a conditional opponent, but now it openly regards our country as an obvious adversary. However, this is nothing more than an escalation of tension in Europe, which has its consequences,” said the Kremlin representative. Such statements from NATO emphasize that Europe does not want to listen to Russia’s concerns or take into account the principle of indivisible security, Peskov continued. He emphasized that the NATO’s military infrastructure approaching Russia’s borders cannot go unanswered. The President’s spokesperson commented on the statement made by the head of NATO’s Joint Support and Enabling Command, Alexander S. Vollrath, regarding the need to create a “military Schengen” – a zone of free military passage. According to the NATO general, the alliance forces face obstacles in the form of national regulations when moving troops and ammunition. Earlier this week, the President of the Czech Republic, Petr Pavel, stated that NATO considers Russia as the number one threat in Europe. The Kremlin responded by stating that today it is not Russia threatening Europe, but Europe threatening Russia, as it is controlled by the United States and is part of NATO, which is moving towards Russian borders with all its might.
