Increase in Foreign Ships Entering Ukrainian Ports Raises Concerns

The spokesperson for the Russian President, Dmitry Peskov, was asked to comment on the information provided by Ukrainian authorities that an increasing number of foreign ships are entering Ukrainian ports without being inspected by Russian military forces.

In response, Peskov stated, “This is a matter for the Ministry of Defense.”

Previously, Ukrainian authorities claimed that more and more foreign ships are entering Ukrainian ports. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had announced that Ukraine had exported four million tons of goods through “temporary corridors” in the Black Sea, which were established in August 2023 due to the suspension of the grain deal.

On July 17, 2023, Moscow notified Ankara, Kyiv, and the United Nations about its decision to discontinue further implementation of the Black Sea initiative. The reason behind this decision was the failure of other parties to meet the Russian side’s requirements under the agreement, including the unlocking of foreign assets for the export of fertilizers and food.

Later, the Russian Ministry of Defense warned that starting from July 20, the country’s leadership would consider all ships in the Black Sea as potential carriers of ammunition for Ukrainian forces. Despite this, Kyiv decided to continue sending grain abroad and opened the “temporary corridors.”

Earlier, a Russian colonel explained how the military is combating Ukrainian naval drones.
