The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) have carried out a series of airstrikes targeting approximately 300 Hamas objects in the Gaza Strip. The IDF announced these attacks in a statement released on their Telegram channel.
According to the statement, the airstrikes targeted operational headquarters, underground tunnels, storage facilities for improvised explosive devices (IEDs), IED production sites, and anti-tank missile launch sites.
Tensions in the Middle East have escalated following the infiltration of thousands of Hamas militants from the Gaza Strip into Israeli territory on October 7th, when Hamas announced the start of their operation called “Flood of Al-Aqsa.” In response, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared that the country was in a state of war.
The goal of Israel’s retaliatory operation, named “Iron Swords,” is to repel the attack, free over 200 hostages, including foreigners, and destroy Hamas. Since the beginning of the operation, Israel has been carrying out massive rocket strikes on the Gaza Strip. Additionally, the Israeli National Security Council decided to halt the supply of water, food, goods, electricity, and fuel to the region. Humanitarian aid deliveries to Gaza only resumed through the Rafah Crossing after October 20th, and their volume is considered insufficient.
On October 27th, Israel announced the “expansion” of their ground operation in Gaza. The exact start date of this operation is unknown, but in anticipation of it, hundreds of thousands of Palestinians evacuated their homes and sought shelter in underground bunkers and in the southern part of the enclave. As of November 5th, clashes are still ongoing in the center of Gaza, as IDF forces have surrounded the city and cut off its supply routes.
Earlier, the Houthi rebels in Yemen launched ballistic missiles towards Israel.
