Russian Senate Approves Amendments to Increase Military Pensions

The Federation Council of Russia has approved amendments to a law that will increase pension payments for military personnel and their families starting from October 1, 2024. This information was reported by TASS.

The changes are being made to the law “On Pension Provision for Persons Who Served in the Military, Internal Affairs Bodies, State Fire Service, Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Control Bodies, Institutions and Bodies of the Criminal Executive System, National Guard Troops of the Russian Federation, Bodies of Forced Execution of the Russian Federation, and Their Families.” The amendments primarily aim to increase financial payments to military personnel and their families.

Previously, the law stated that the monetary allowance would be considered at 54% when calculating military pensions. However, the amendments abolish this provision. According to the new regulations, starting from October 1, 2024, 85.47% of the monetary allowance will be taken into account, and from October 1, 2025, it will be 89.32%. The authors of the project note that this will increase the average size of military pensions by 4.5% from October 2024.

On November 20, it was reported that the Russian government will allocate over three billion rubles for a one-time payment to blockade veterans.

Earlier, the State Duma passed in the first reading a bill that provides for a 7.5% increase in the average pension for non-working pensioners starting from January 1, 2024.
