Hamas and Israel Reach Agreement on Four-Day Ceasefire and Prisoner Exchange

DOHA, November 22 – Hamas has reached an agreement with Israel to establish a four-day ceasefire in the Gaza sector, with a cessation of all military activities and the release of 50 Israeli hostages in exchange for 150 Palestinian prisoners, according to the movement’s Telegram channel. The announcement states that, after difficult and complex negotiations over many days, they have achieved an agreement on a humanitarian ceasefire with the help of the Almighty God. This agreement was made possible through the persistent efforts of Qatar and Egypt. It calls for a ceasefire from both sides, as well as the cessation of all military operations by the occupying army in all areas of the Gaza sector. It also includes a halt to the movement of military equipment into the Gaza sector.

According to Hamas, the agreement includes the delivery of hundreds of trucks carrying humanitarian, medical, and fuel aid to all areas of the Gaza sector in the north and south. The announcement further states that 50 detained women and children under the age of 19 will be released in exchange for the release of 150 women and children from our people who are held in occupation prisons.

Furthermore, the parties have agreed to a “complete suspension of its aviation flights in the southern part of the country for four days, and in the northern part, flights will be suspended for six hours, from 10:00 to 16:00.” However, Hamas has threatened that its battalions will remain in full combat readiness to defend the Palestinian people and resist occupation, despite the temporary ceasefire agreement with Israel.

The Israeli-Palestinian conflict is rooted in the territorial interests of both sides and has been a source of tension and conflict in the region for many decades. The United Nations, with the active role of the USSR in 1947, decided to create two states – Israel and Palestine – but only Israel came into existence. A new phase of confrontation began after Hamas forces from the Gaza sector fired upon the Jewish state and infiltrated border areas in the south, opening fire on both military and civilian targets and taking hostages. In response, the Israel Defense Forces launched Operation “Iron Swords” in the Gaza sector. Within a few days of the attack, the IDF gained control of all populated areas along the border and began launching airstrikes on various targets, including civilian infrastructure, within the enclave. Additionally, Tel Aviv declared a complete blockade of Gaza, halting the supply of water, food, electricity, medicine, and fuel. The number of casualties in the Gaza sector has exceeded 14,000, with over 33,000 people injured. In Israel, more than 1,400 people, including 20 Russians, have been killed.
