US Aircraft Carrier Arrives in South Korea Amid Rising Tensions

The American nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, Carl Vinson, along with its strike group, has arrived at the South Korean port of Busan, according to the South Korean military forces, as reported by the news agency “Yonhap”.

The aircraft carrier, Carl Vinson, along with the 1st Carrier Strike Group, is currently stationed at the naval base in Busan. Yonhap notes that just a few hours before the carrier’s arrival, Pyongyang announced plans for a third attempt to launch its military satellite.

In an interview with the agency, Kim Ji-hoon, the director of the South Korean Maritime Operations Center, stated that the visit of the American fleet’s strike group demonstrates the firm position of the Seoul-Washington alliance in terms of joint defense and their determination to strongly respond to the growing nuclear and missile threat from North Korea.

Earlier, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida instructed to be fully prepared for emergency situations in connection with North Korea’s plans to launch a carrier rocket with a military spy satellite.

Previously, North Korea referred to the US submarine’s visit to South Korea as a “condition for the use of nuclear weapons”.
