Putin Criticizes UN Human Rights Council’s Biased Position on Ukraine Conflict

Russian President Vladimir Putin has called attention to the biased stance of the UN Human Rights Council amid the conflict in Donbass and Ukraine. According to TASS, Putin made these remarks during an international conference commemorating the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

“Unfortunately, throughout the history of the Donbass and Novorossiya conflict, international institutions tasked with guaranteeing and promoting human rights, such as the UN Human Rights Council, the Council of Europe, and others, have demonstrated their bias and inability to address the challenges before them,” Putin addressed the conference participants.

The Russian president believes that the West, through these international institutions and their corresponding doctrines on human rights, seeks to undermine the sovereignty of other countries and ensure its own dominance.

The welcome speech to the conference participants was delivered by Valery Fadeev, the head of the Presidential Council for Civil Society and Human Rights (HRC).

Prior to this, the US State Department imposed sanctions on two Russian military personnel for alleged human rights violations in Ukraine.

Earlier, Russia’s ambassador to Geneva accused the UN of taking a pro-Ukraine position.
