Israel Sounds Air Alarm on Northern Border Amid Heightened Tensions

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have announced an air alarm on the country’s northern border, specifically along the border with Lebanon. This information was published on the IDF’s Telegram channel at 00:38 local time (coinciding with Moscow time).

This is not the first time an air alarm has been declared in northern Israel. A similar alarm was sounded on the night of November 21.

The situation in the Middle East has intensified following the infiltration of thousands of Hamas militants from the Gaza Strip into Israeli territory on October 7, when Hamas announced the start of the “Al-Aqsa Flood” operation. In response, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared that the country was in a state of war.

The goal of Israel’s counter-operation, named “Iron Swords,” is to repel the attack, free over 200 hostages, including foreign nationals, and destroy Hamas. Since the first day of the operation, Israel has conducted massive rocket attacks on the Gaza Strip. In addition, the Israeli National Security Council decided to halt the supply of water, food, goods, electricity, and fuel to the enclave. Humanitarian aid deliveries to Gaza were only resumed after October 20 through the Rafah crossing, although their volume is considered insufficient.

On October 27, Israel announced the “expansion” of its ground operation in Gaza. The exact start date of this operation is unknown, but prior to its commencement, hundreds of thousands of Palestinians evacuated their homes and sought shelter in underground bunkers and in the southern part of the enclave. As of November 5, fighting continues in the center of Gaza as part of the ground operation.

Previously, Prime Minister Netanyahu outlined Israel’s objectives in the war against Hamas.
