Analysis of Ukrainian Armed Forces’ Weapons and Equipment in the Conflict with Russia

In an interview with “Lenta.ru,” military expert and director of the Air Defense Forces Museum, Yuri Knutov, discussed the main weapons used by the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the field against Russian troops.

According to Knutov, Soviet weapons are almost non-existent in Ukraine today, with Ukrainian forces primarily relying on NATO equipment and weapons.

“There are a small number of T-72 tanks (Soviet tanks) in Polish and Slovak modifications, but most of them are now fighting with Leopard tanks (German-made tanks), specifically the Leopard 1 variant, which lacks dynamic protection and screens. Their effectiveness is quite low,” the specialist shared.

Knutov also mentioned that the Bradley infantry fighting vehicles (IFVs) were not able to demonstrate significant results on the battlefield.

The most effective weapons have been the German Panzerhaubitze 2000 howitzers, M777 howitzers, French Caesar howitzers, Swedish Archer howitzers, Polish Krab howitzers, and British AS-90 howitzers. Russian barraging ammunition “Lancet” and salvo fire missile systems “Tornado-S” are engaged against them.

The Ukrainian Armed Forces also heavily rely on American HIMARS rocket artillery systems. Russian forces counter them with radio-electronic warfare systems of the “Tor” and “Pantsir” complexes.

Knutov emphasized that the Russian aviation has a colossal advantage. Additionally, Russian military forces use bombs with a unified planning and correction module, providing a strong battlefield superiority. They also utilize the T-90 tank and the anti-tank missile system “Kornet” in combat against German Leopards.

Earlier, Ukraine outlined the conditions for conducting negotiations with Russia.
