NATO Considers Increasing Military Presence in the Western Balkans

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, during a press conference in the unrecognized territory of Kosovo, announced that the North Atlantic Alliance is currently reviewing its military presence in the Western Balkans region, including Bosnia and Herzegovina and Kosovo, according to TASS.

“We are currently reviewing, with our military authorities, our military presence in the Western Balkans region, including Bosnia and Herzegovina and Kosovo,” he said.

He added that the alliance is assessing the feasibility of increasing its presence on a permanent basis to prevent new conflicts.

Earlier, Stoltenberg expressed concern about the spread of “separatist rhetoric” in Bosnia, which has raised concerns among NATO leadership.

In October, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Srpska (an entity within Bosnia and Herzegovina), Radovan Višković, announced plans to sign a long-term gas supply agreement with Russia. It is expected that the agreement will be concluded by the end of 2023.

Previously, the NATO Secretary General called on the Russian leadership to withdraw troops from Transnistria.
