European Diplomat Urges Israel to Consider Rules of War in Gaza Bombardments

The head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell, stated in an interview with Spanish newspaper Pais that Israel needs to consider the “rules of war” when conducting bombardments in the Gaza Strip.

According to Borrell, the actions taken by the Palestinian movement Hamas against Israel are terrible and unjustified attacks on innocent civilians, but he emphasized that war has its own set of rules.

“Bombardments must take into account the casualties they cause,” he added.

On November 16th, the head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell, arrived in Israel. As part of his visit, the leader of the European Union’s foreign policy service called on the Jewish state to exercise restraint in its confrontation with Hamas in the Gaza Strip.

In early October, the forces of the Palestinian movement Hamas launched a major rocket attack on Israel, declaring the start of the “Flood of Al-Aqsa” operation. As part of the attack, thousands of militants infiltrated the territory of the Jewish state, seized military equipment, and took over a hundred people hostage. In response, Israel launched the “Iron Swords” operation in the Gaza Strip, promising to destroy Hamas. The actions of the Jewish state led to a blockade of the Palestinian enclave, mass bombings, and a demand to evacuate over 1 million people to the south of the region.

Earlier, Israel destroyed the parliament of Gaza.
