Thirty-one premature babies, who were left without life-sustaining equipment, have been successfully evacuated from al-Shifa Hospital in the Gaza Strip. The hospital, facing a shortage of fuel and medical supplies due to Israeli forces raiding the facility, had left these vulnerable infants in critical condition. However, with the help of coordinated efforts from the Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS), the World Health Organization (WHO), and the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, the babies were safely transported to hospitals in southern Gaza.
The dire situation at al-Shifa Hospital prompted an urgent evacuation, with Israeli forces ordering doctors, patients, and displaced people to leave the compound. Some individuals were even forced to evacuate at gunpoint, according to reports from doctors and Palestinian officials. During the raid, four babies tragically lost their lives. The remaining infants have been transferred to Tal al-Sultan Hospital in Rafah, with plans for them to be sent to Egyptian hospitals along with their families.
