Hezbollah Attacks Israeli Defense Forces: Escalation in the Middle East

In a recent statement, the Shiite movement “Hezbollah” has claimed responsibility for attacking 14 posts of the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) along the Lebanon border. The attacks targeted IDF facilities in Yiftah, El Abade, El Malikiya, Wadi Hunin, and Horsh Ramime.

This comes after Hezbollah successfully shot down an Israeli drone using an air-to-ground missile.

The situation in the Middle East has intensified following the infiltration of thousands of Hamas militants from the Gaza Strip into Israeli territory on October 7th. Hamas declared the beginning of their operation, named “Flood of Al-Aqsa.” In response, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that the country is in a state of war.

Israel’s counter-operation, named “Iron Swords,” aims to repel the attack, free over 200 hostages (including foreign nationals), and destroy Hamas. Since the start of the operation, Israel has been conducting massive rocket attacks on the Gaza Strip. Additionally, the Israeli National Security Council decided to halt the supply of water, food, goods, electricity, and fuel to the Gaza Strip. Humanitarian aid deliveries to Gaza only resumed through the Rafah Crossing after October 20th, but the volume of aid is still considered insufficient.

On October 27th, Israel announced the “expansion” of its ground operation in Gaza. The exact start date of this operation remains unknown, but prior to it, hundreds of thousands of Palestinians evacuated their homes and sought refuge in shelters and the southern part of the enclave. As of November 5th, fighting continues in the center of Gaza as IDF forces have surrounded the city, cutting off its supply lines.

Previously, the possibility of Hezbollah’s involvement in the war was deemed a “fatal mistake” in Israel.
