Approximately 200 people were killed during an attack by the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) on a school in Jebalia, according to Al Jazeera. The strike, which took place near the “Al-Fahura” school in a refugee camp in the city of Jebalia in the northern Palestinian enclave, was carried out by Israeli airstrikes.
It was clarified by Al Hadath channel that the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) manages this educational institution. Many civilians sought refuge in the school’s premises to escape the bombardments.
Before the escalation of the conflict in Jebalia, more than 80,000 people resided there.
The situation in the Middle East has intensified following the infiltration of thousands of Hamas militants from the Gaza Strip into Israeli territory on October 7, when Hamas declared the start of the “Flood of Al-Aqsa” operation. In response, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that the country is in a state of war.
The objective of Israel’s retaliatory operation, named “Iron Swords,” is to repel the attack, free over 200 hostages, including foreigners, and destroy Hamas. From the first day of the operation, Israel has conducted massive rocket bombardments on the Gaza Strip as part of achieving this objective. Furthermore, the Israeli National Security Council decided to halt the supply of water, food, goods, electricity, and fuel to the Gaza Strip. Humanitarian aid deliveries to Gaza began only after October 20 through the Rafah checkpoint, but their volume is considered insufficient.
On October 27, Israel announced the “expansion” of its ground operation in Gaza. The exact start date of this operation is unknown, but hundreds of thousands of Palestinians had already evacuated their homes and relocated to shelters and the southern part of the enclave before its commencement. As of November 5, clashes continue in the center of Gaza, where IDF forces have surrounded the city and cut off its supplies.
Earlier, the Israeli army had suspended military actions in the southern part of the Gaza Strip.
