Israel Suspends Military Operations in Gaza as Tensions Escalate

The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) have announced the suspension of military actions in the Gaza sector along the border with Egypt. The agency made this announcement through its social media account, X (formerly known as Twitter).

According to the IDF, the fighting will cease in the vicinity of the Al-Shabura refugee camp in the city of Rafah. Israeli forces have urged residents to evacuate by 4:00 PM local time (5:00 PM Moscow time).

Additionally, the agency has declared that a corridor for evacuation via the Salah ad-Din road will be operational for residents of Tal al-Hawa, Sabra, western Zaytunah, Shujaiya, and Tuffah.

The situation in the Middle East has intensified following the infiltration of thousands of Hamas militants from the Gaza sector into Israeli territory on October 7th, when Hamas announced the start of the “Al-Aqsa Flood” operation. In response, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared that the country was in a state of war.

The goal of Israel’s counter-operation, named “Iron Swords,” is to repel the attack, liberate over 200 hostages, including foreigners, and destroy Hamas. From the first day of the operation, Israel has carried out massive missile strikes on the Gaza sector in pursuit of this objective. Moreover, the Israeli National Security Council decided to halt the supply of water, food, goods, electricity, and fuel to the sector. Humanitarian aid deliveries to Gaza only resumed through the Rafah checkpoint after October 20th, with their volume being deemed insufficient.

On October 27th, Israel announced the “expansion” of its ground operation in Gaza. The exact start date of this operation remains unknown, but in anticipation, hundreds of thousands of Palestinians have evacuated their homes and moved to shelters and the southern part of the enclave. As of November 5th, fighting continues in the center of Gaza, as IDF forces have surrounded the city and cut off its supply lines.

Earlier, the UAE expressed concern over Israel’s statements regarding the Gaza sector.
