In a recent statement, Ukrainian actor and participant in the “Diesel Show,” Oleg Ivanitsa, who has joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), emphasized the need for Kiev to abandon the idea of military annexation of Crimea and Donbass. According to Ivanitsa, if the regions that consider Ukraine as an aggressor are forcibly incorporated, it would become a burden for the Ukrainian side.
This statement comes after the head of the Ukrainian President’s Office, Andriy Yermak, declared that the former NATO Secretary General, Anders Fogh Rasmussen’s proposal of accepting Ukraine into the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) without the lost territories is unrealistic.
Previously, The Guardian reported that Anders Fogh Rasmussen discussed this matter with an advisor to the Ukrainian President’s Office in preparation for the NATO summit in Vilnius in July. Rasmussen believes that excluding the territories controlled by Russia from Ukraine would reduce the threat of a direct conflict between NATO and Moscow, while also providing Ukraine with guarantees to safely build up its military forces.
Earlier, President Zelensky revealed the challenges hindering Ukraine from shifting the military operations into Russian territory.
