A Tennessee man was arrested during a Christmas Tractor Parade in Tazewell after allegedly driving a converted riding lawnmower train while under the influence and in possession of methamphetamine. The incident occurred on Saturday when the conductor of the train, identified as 40-year-old Henry Meade, began acting erratically, catching the attention of several people, including officers with the Tazewell Police Department.
The train, known as “Santa’s Train,” was intended to provide rides for families during the parade. However, when officers approached Meade, they noticed he was unsteady on his feet. Upon further investigation, it was determined that Meade was under the influence. He was subsequently taken into custody, and a search revealed that he was in possession of a syringe, methamphetamine, and other narcotics.
Meade has been charged with DUI, possession of methamphetamine, possession of narcotics, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He has been booked into the Claiborne County Jail and remains in custody as of Thursday.
In response to the incident, the Tazewell Police Department and the city’s mayor, Bill Fannon, issued a statement on Facebook. They clarified that vendor hiring for the parade is not under the city’s jurisdiction and that vendors are independently contracted. Despite this, the police department acted swiftly to ensure the safety of event attendees. The statement emphasized the commitment to public safety and commended the police officers for their rapid response.
During the parade, there were 14 police officers on foot patrol, ensuring the security of the several thousand attendees. The officials highlighted that public safety is always a top priority and expressed gratitude for the officers’ actions in protecting everyone involved.
