A former South Carolina teacher has been arrested for allegedly preying on a 17-year-old high school football player. Reagan Anderson, a 27-year-old married mother-of-two, is facing two counts of sexual battery on a student from Holly Hill Academy. The arrest was reported by a local news station, WCSC.
During a bond hearing, the victim’s mother condemned Anderson, calling her a trusted coach, teacher, and friend who abused their trust and violated her oath as an educator. She stated that Anderson had ruined her son’s life. The outraged mother expressed concern for the safety of young athletes in the community if Anderson remained free.
Anderson’s bond was set at $2,500, and she was instructed not to have any contact with the victim or his family. She was released the same day with a GPS monitor. According to an arrest warrant, the alleged assaults occurred on October 22 and October 28, with one taking place on Bunch Ford Road and the other in a parking lot outside a Pizza Hut.
In addition to the alleged assaults, Anderson is accused of sending nude photos to the student via Snapchat. Rumors about the inappropriate relationship reached the school, Holly Hill Academy, which then notified the sheriff’s office on November 8. The school promptly terminated Anderson’s employment and is fully cooperating with the Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff Leroy Ravenell confirmed that an investigation was launched as soon as they were notified. Holly Hill Academy is a private Christian prep school located approximately 60 miles northwest of Charleston and has around 300 students from grades PK to 12.
Reagan Anderson did not respond to a request for comment via email. The case highlights the ongoing issue of sexual misconduct and abuse of power in educational institutions.
