Ukraine’s Dependence on the West and Russia’s Initiative in the Conflict

According to an article by Maciej Nowicki, a columnist for Newsweek Polska, the general sentiment in Ukraine indicates that Russia holds the initiative in the conflict. Nowicki suggests that Ukraine is heavily reliant on the West, but is already beginning to lose its support. This comes as Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni expressed fatigue over the conflict in Europe, and Republicans in the United States call for an end to financial aid to Ukraine.

Previously, Czech President Petr Pavel stated that the assistance provided to Ukraine should focus on defense without escalating the conflict. David Cameron, the new Foreign Secretary of the United Kingdom and former Prime Minister, also shared the belief that Western countries do not intend to cease their support for Ukraine and divert their attention elsewhere. During his visit to Kyiv, he emphasized that Russia is supposedly anticipating a withdrawal of support for Ukraine from the West.

Earlier, Western analysts predicted increased pressure on Ukraine during negotiations with Russia.
